Professor Richard Maxwell, Media Studies at Queens College, City University of New York
Co-presented with Media@Sydney, Sydney Democracy Network, and the Sydney Environment Institute at the University of Sydney
We don't usually think of media as an ecological problem, but over the past forty years research and response to environmental risks associated with media technology has grown from activist roots to a topic of concern in academia, policy circles, and industry. The field of media and communication studies has largely focused on media content, and now a growing number of scholars are examining the hardware’s environmental impact, from the sourcing of raw materials to the disposal of dead and outdated media technology. Learn more as Richard Maxwell presents material from his recent books, Greening the Media, Media and the Ecological Crisis, and The Routledge Companion to Labor and Media.
